Growing up quickly…

Triplet Diddle

After many years, FreeDrum.Info deserves an upgrade. There’s going to be a period of inactivity while things come together, and after that you’ll get introduced to everything new. Here’s what to expect:

  • FreeDrum.Info is going to be replaced by TripletDiddle.com
  • TripletDiddle.com is going to focus specifically on marching percussion
  • Helpful related sites will be added, like DrumlineJobs.com

It will take time for everything to come together, but the wait should be worth it.

In the meantime, check out the chatter over on the Triplet Diddle fan page.

We hope to see you all soon.

Reviews: “Drum Rudiment System” drumset method and DVDs by Lionel Duperron

As a student I spent many years in drumline and even more time at my drumset. Even though I studied both styles, my drumset lessons never really focused on rudiments.
I only wish the Drum Rudiment System had been available to me back then.

The Drum Rudiment System is all about applying rudiments on drumset.

What’s included? Drumset methods for beginner, intermediate, and advanced with exercises, grooves and fills from three workbooks demonstrated through six DVDs. Each level covers all 40 rudiments and gradually increases the demand and difficulty.

Multi-Height Tap Accent Exercises

Sheet Music Drums Despite having played or written countless accent-tap exercises over the years, I can’t remember one that dealt specifically with multiple accent heights. This is an attempt to fill that void.

Multi-Height Tap Accent is a simple 5-7-10 exercise that uses two accent heights - one at 6″ (mezzo-piano) and one at 12″ (forte). There’s two quick versions that will hopefully inspire you to start assigning unique heights to your own accent tap exercises.

Enjoy, and be sure to print a few copies for friends. After all, free drumline sheet music makes a great (i.e. cheap, easy) holiday gift!

Percussive Arts Society (PAS) book reviews for “Majoring in Music” and “Marching Bands”

A few months ago we published author interviews with Rich Holly (Majoring in Music) and Paul Buyer (Marching Bands and Drumlines). PAS just published a series of book reviews and had good things to say about both our FreeDrum.Info guests.

Terry O’Mahoney said of Rich Holly’s Majoring in Music,

This no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point 86-page handbook is a must-read for any music student thinking of majoring in music or becoming a professional musician.

Eric Willie compliments Paul Buyer’s Marching Bands and Drumlines,

Paul Buyer has provided an unparalleled resource for instrumental music/band educators by providing in-depth solutions from top university marching band directors and percussion instructors.

You can read the entire review for these books (pdf) if you’d like on the PAS website.

To order either of the books mentioned above, visit the FreeDrum.Info library!

Start using accents in your Triplet Diddle

Sheet Music Drums There’s a lot of Triplet Diddle drumline exercises out there, even here. Many of these fail to include relevant accent patterns, instead focusing on developing a consistent sound between taps and diddles.

This month’s free pdf for your collection of drumline exercises aims to change that by examining both isolated and consecutive accents among basic diddle patterns.

This is just a start. Try finding other Triplet Diddle exercises and adding your own accent patterns.
